Some garments are too delicate for any kind of machine. Vintage clothing, hand-beaded fabrics, fine cashmere, fragile silks, and certain wool knits can shrink, warp, snag, or break down even on the gentlest washing cycle. The damage is often permanent, and it usually happens to pieces you cannot easily replace. For these garments, hand washing and air drying is the only safe approach.
Bubbles offers a dedicated hand dry service for clothing that needs this level of care. Each garment is treated individually, washed by hand using fabric-appropriate cleaners, and carefully shaped before drying. There is no agitation, no heat, no tumbling, and no risk of the kind of damage that machine cleaning can cause to delicate fibers.
This service is built for the pieces in your closet that matter most. The vintage dress you inherited, the cashmere sweater that took months to find, the silk blouse you only wear on special occasions. Bringing these items to Bubbles means knowing they are being handled by people who understand what is at stake.
Hand drying is intentionally slower than standard cleaning, and that is exactly the point. Every garment is inspected before any cleaning begins so we can identify the fabric, check the care label, and assess any stains or wear that need special attention. From there, the piece is gently hand washed in temperature-controlled water using cleaners selected specifically for the fabric type.
After washing, the garment is carefully shaped and either laid flat or hung to air dry, depending on what the fabric requires. Knits are reshaped while damp to prevent stretching. Beaded and embellished pieces are dried in positions that protect the embellishments. Silks are dried away from direct heat or sunlight to preserve their color and finish. The result is a garment that comes back clean and fresh without losing its shape, color, or texture.
Our hand dry service is ideal for cashmere sweaters and fine knits, vintage and antique clothing, hand-beaded or embellished pieces, fragile silks and chiffons, lace garments, lingerie and intimates, certain wool pieces, and any clothing with a "hand wash only" or "lay flat to dry" care label.
If you are unsure whether a piece qualifies for hand dry service, ask us before you schedule a pickup. We would much rather check first and recommend the right service than risk damaging something that cannot be replaced. Send us a photo of the care label and the garment, and we will tell you exactly how we would approach it.
Most dry cleaners do not offer true hand dry service. Some claim to but still process delicate garments through standard machines on a gentle cycle, which is not the same thing. At Bubbles, hand dry means hand dry. Every step of the process is performed manually by team members who specialize in delicate garment care, and your pieces never get treated like everything else in the queue.
We have years of experience working with vintage clothing, designer pieces, and family heirloom garments. When you bring a delicate item to Bubbles, you are working with a team that takes the time to do it right and treats your clothing the way you would treat it yourself.
